A few years ago, Dirt Rally surprised everyone with its challenging gameplay and tight handling. While the visuals may not have been on the level of games like Forza Motorsport 7, the gameplay was loved by many. Everyone assumed that Dirt Rally would be a one-off deal, but a few months ago, Codemasters announced Dirt Rally 2.0.
Now that Dirt Rally 2.0 is available on Xbox One and other platforms, many gamers want to know how the resolution compares on various consoles. Luckily, Digital Foundry analysed the game on Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro to provide a definitive answer. The Xbox One X version achieves native 4K resolution, but when the performance begins to suffer, the resolution drops down to 1800p to maintain 60 frames per second. Unfortunately, the PlayStation 4 Pro version only manages to hit 1080p. There is no option to target 4K resolution.
Buried deep in the settings, the Xbox One X has the option to either engage or disengage 4K resolution. If you turn it off, the game runs at 1080p just like PlayStation 4 Pro, but still offers better shadows and other smaller effects. For example, if you're using an Xbox One X with a 1080p display, you may want to consider that.

It's great to see that Codemasters took the Xbox One X version to the next level. Hopefully this trend will continue in the future even though next-generation consoles are right around the corner.

Dirt Rally is a popular racing game which exclusively tackles driving in tricky conditions. Dirt Rally came out last year and since then many gamers have been clamoring for a sequel. Today, developer Codemasters announced Dirt Rally 2.0. The game will launch on Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4 on February 26, 2019. So far, only Xbox One X enhancements have been confirmed.
According to the developer, Dirt Rally 2.0 will take players to six rally locations around the world. The title will also feature cars from the 2018 'FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy' season as well as eight of the official 'WorldRX' circuits. Codemasters Chief Games Designer Ross Gowing issued the following statement alongside the reveal.
